topic posted Wed, August 8, 2007 - 1:23 AM by  Margot
I'm trying to brainstorm some common mistakes made by advanced non-native speakers. A few are below; please add to the list!

Funny to mean fun
Explain without a preposition
Boring to mean bored
Exciting to mean excited....

One funny one that I often get fom my French crowd: I'm interesting for I'm interested but that is also a general mistake.

Do a contrastive analysis for the people you are teaching to. It can be very useful.

    czechs often say:
She recommended me a good book.
    and
I'm going on cottage in the nature at weekend.

Confusing the meanings of 'borrow' and 'lend' (reversing the from and to) is a common problem, too.
